and a doco about the GRL. Which is about to be screened at the MoMA and is also able to be downloaded from the piratebay.org as GRL upped it shortly after it was completed.
I like Justice but I must admit to the opinion that they’re a bit of a fad. However I think this video clip might prove me wrong as it’s pretty compelling. This is in addition to the review from Pitchfork about their set which closed out Coachella, so they might be around for a bit longer (the review also had great things to say about Portishead’s only US appearance). Highlight of the clip is when they pull the car stereo out. via Kanye West’s blog (which is surprisingly good)
Well, it’s not a perfect archive by any means, however Seeqpod (pronounced seek-pod… maybe?) is pretty darn cool. Especially when it hooks me up with this blazing Beastie Boys performance on Letterman.
In other geek news, the queen geek thespian herself, Milla Jovovich, has a music career and has recorded with the likes of Maynard Keenan and The Crystal Method. However her early stuff has dated a bit (thanks to Mariya for the tip)
Well. Things are going pretty well. Certainly better than I’d thought they would go. Just a quick update of what I’ve managed to line up thus far.
A day or two a week interning for a photographer (follow the link below, hit the menu ‘photographers’ then hit ‘klynt’). Klynt
A very exciting internship with an outfit called c-trl. Their office is a real trip, crazy like. Check their showreel. c-trl
A job at Apple, selling my favourite machines. A kid in a candy store. Apple – Fifth Avenue
And because I’m a glutton for punishment I went out and got another job as well. I’m now the proud employee of Film Forum. Film Forum
And finally, we got a house yesterday. A big space with no cockroaches in a polish neighborhood called Greenpoint that’s midway through gentrification. Check out the Satellite photo below and follow the link below for google-map-a-magic (second stop on the L-Trai. Giggety). Greenpoint, Brooklyn
So since tomorrow marks the last day of three weeks in NYC, I’d say I’m doing pretty well. Head above water at least and that’s all I ask for. I am however excited as to what the next update will be like….
Aerogel. A very suitable sci-fi name for a product that promises everything. It absorbs pollution, can withstand bomb blasts and insulates against temperatures as low as -130 degrees.
Short but interesting article on Shepard Fairy and his assistants at Artinfo. Also, some Banksy works were stolen.
Of a consistently high quality is the site 365 Portraits. A new portrait for every single day of the year, the subjects are as varied as the techniques used. The photographs are slways interesting and sometimes compelling, and a great achievement by Bill Wadman to remain at such a high level of production both in quantity and quality. Featured below is the shot of a man named Daniel Krieger from the 16th of August 2007.
I am consistently surprised by how many people have not seen Don Hertzfeldt’s animations. Here are his two best: ‘Billy’s Balloon’ and ‘Rejected’. If you’re interested, there’s some more links to others beneath. Also, check out his site Bitter Films for DVD copies of his animations as well as merchandise and Don’s online journal.
I’ve been reading when I should be working, but I have found some interesting stuff. Particularly this article about the Sworn Virgins of Albania. There’s video as well, but I couldn’t get it to work.
I was interviewed by Triple J’s ACT Arts reporter Marianne Mettes about my animation Interference You can hear it on Triple J, or you can read the article or listen to the interview at The Program
Okay, things have been a bit bleak lately but there are some good times ahead. Most notably the fact that regardless of whether or not I will have to sell a kidney to get there, I will be going to see Portishead playing their first gig (in almost ten years) for their new album, this December.
Late last year Neal and I were talking about the good and the bad movie trailers. At the time Little Children was the great example of the better way to do things. The trailer for Day Night Day Night is in a similar vein. Very intriguing.
Miranda July has a great idea and makes the website promoting her new book on a white-board. Not only is it quite funny, but it endears you to her writing style before you even think about the book. If nothing else it’s a perfect example of how simple and easy a great idea is on the interwebs.
So I’ve got a new Ipod Nano. It’s a sexy and slim little 2gb and I want to keep it safe and away from harm. Especially for when I travel, iPods are probably the most likely items to be stolen. So what do I do? I do what this intelligent person has done and make my own case for it. A secret case. Out of a boring book which no thief would think to take. Plus I have the added advantage of being an uber geek and thus more likely to procreate than you.
No update today because I was at work till 2am this morning. Oh so sleepy. There is however a very cool Bill Henson image which has been on my brain this last little while. Enjoy.
It’s also the cover of his book Mnemosyne which I decided not to buy for $80 and now can’t find for less than $200…
