Incommunicado

September 25, 2007

A quick post to say that I will be gone for a while. I’ll post again when I’ve reached NYC, hopefully with a few happy snaps as well. These are my last days in the ‘berra. I’ll leave you with a video which I think is fitting:

MC Frontalot – It Is Pitch Dark

This is awesome. I never played Zork, but I did play ADOM and it followed in its lead quite a lot. Unfortunately, I’ve just found out that ADOM has been released on a mac, so there goes all of my free time…

NYC Muzaak.

September 16, 2007

A couple of videos that I stumbled across recently. The first is latest single is from math rockers Battles, titled “Tonto.” I’m looking forward to catching these boys in New York. And the second is something that I’ve had scribbled on a piece of paper for almost a year now. I don’t know where it came from or who might have recommended it to me but thank you, I love it! It’s by Gogol Bordello, also from NYC, called “Start Wearing Purple.”

A Little Atomic Bomb

The Dark Knight

Have I mentioned how much I’m looking forward to this? When they first announced Heath Ledger as the Joker I was annoyed at their choice, but I’m coming around. I’m really looking forward to this!

(Plus Maggie Gyllenhaal has thankfully now replaced Katie Holmes)

Aerogel

Aerogel. A very suitable sci-fi name for a product that promises everything. It absorbs pollution, can withstand bomb blasts and insulates against temperatures as low as -130 degrees.

Short but interesting article on Shepard Fairy and his assistants at Artinfo. Also, some Banksy works were stolen.

50 Manifestos. I especially like Jasper Morrison’s call to arms of “Preserve Normal, resist Special!”

Wallspankers graffiti zine

Last Exit To Nowhere T-shirts from your favourite films.

Crowd Farming. Apparently not a Soylent Green substitute.

Polish movie posters. Some of these are simply incredible. Others, frightening.

Apache

September 10, 2007

To make things better after my previous post, Apache before it was covered by disco. The original and the non-disco cover below:

A profile on Evil: Disco, the rainbow killer.

Joe’s Apartment

Anyone remember this? Thinking about NYC reminded me. Hopefully my apartment is not nearly so bad.

Chaser’s war on APEC

September 8, 2007

This was their first stunt, before APEC had gotten underway:

This is the preview footage before the stunt hits television on the 12th:

As reported by ABC:

Ten Morning News

And Today Tonight, sometimes more (unintentionally) satirical than the Chaser itself.

The Chaser

Thank everything that is good and holy for the chaser boys.

Ali

Photos that I took recently of the Canberra’s own jazz star Ali. I think they came out quite well, especially considering that we were short on time.

Aya Kato

I’m in love with the work of Aya Kato. Particularly her works on the subject of myths and fairy tales. Beautiful and sometimes deadly, just like the original tales. Featured below is Rapunzel

Ron Mueck

Check out this english documentary on Ron Mueck. Why do they all British art doco’s have the same music?

Feist – 1 2 3 4

September 5, 2007

A sweet song and another great spin on the one shot video clip. How hard is this? I’ve never done something like it myself, but it makes my head hurt trying to work it out.

Paul McCartney – ‘Dance Tonight’

Scamming the Scammer

September 3, 2007

This is just surreal. It’s a video created by a Nigerian email scammer who thinks he is producing a video for a scholarship payment from a victim that he tried to scam. Unfortunately for this particular scammer, the “victim” is actually someone who has set out to bait and catch scammers. And these ones have fallen for it hook line and sinker.

Whether these actors are the scammers themselves or not is unclear. Regardless this has something about it that I can’t quite put my finger on. It reminds me about the new Jack Black and Mos Def film Be Kind Rewind, only more… harrowing?

Go now to Idents TV to check out an amazing animation by Sägas. Incredible stuff, that resembles in no small way Owen’s animation of 2006 (put it online!).
